# PPE detection system for gates, machines and lone workers

> SPARK checks hard hats and hi-vis vests at the entrance, stops machines when someone steps into the danger zone and calls for help when a worker falls. One AI box, up to four cameras.

A **PPE detection system** does the check a supervisor would do at the gate, at every gate and on every shift. SPARK by AVALTAR uses AI image recognition to see whether a person is wearing the required PPE, and the gate, turnstile or door responds: green and open, or red and closed.
The same platform goes further. It combines AI with LoRa and UWB wireless communication, connects to PLCs, sirens, beacons and speakers, and sends notifications by SMS or email. Zones, the objects to detect and the action to take can all be reconfigured on site.

## How SPARK PPE detection works
1. **Choose** — Select the zones, the objects to detect and the action for each case.
2. **Detect** — A compact AI box analyses up to four cameras at once, with IR night vision for dark areas.
3. **Decide** — Your rules decide what happens: allow, deny, warn or call for help.
4. **Act** — Outputs drive the gate, a PLC, a siren or beacon, a speaker, or send an SMS or email.

## What automated PPE checks give you
- **Consistent checks** — Every person, every entry, every shift, without relying on someone to stand at the door.
- **Machines that stop for people** — Robots, machines, lifts and cranes can stop automatically when a person enters their zone.
- **Help for lone workers** — No movement or a fall triggers an alert to HSE or managers by SMS or email.
- **Works in the dark** — IR night vision cameras keep detection running in poorly lit areas.
- **Reconfigurable on site** — Change zones, detected objects and actions as your rules or layout change.

## Technical data
| | |
|---|---|
| Cameras per AI box | Up to 4 at a time |
| Night vision | IR cameras |
| Technologies | AI image recognition, LoRa, UWB |
| Notifications | SMS, email |
| Outputs | PLC, siren/beacon, speaker and other predefined peripherals |

## Three areas, one platform
- **Access control** — Hard hat and vest detection at gates, turnstiles and restricted entrances. No vest, no helmet: no entry.
- **Machine control** — Automatic stop of robots, machines, lifting equipment or cranes when a person enters the zone.
- **Lone-worker control** — Detection of a fall or lack of movement, followed by an SOS message to HSE.
- **People-density reporting** — Reports on how many people are present in an area, as part of prevention.

## Frequently asked questions
### Which PPE can SPARK detect?
The classic gate check is helmets and hi-vis vests. SPARK can be adapted to detect other objects in other areas, so we confirm the detection targets against your PPE rules during the survey.

### Does it work at night or in dark areas?
Yes. The cameras have IR night vision, so detection also works in dark environments.

### Can it connect to our turnstiles or PLC?
SPARK has predefined outputs for PLCs, sirens, beacons and speakers, and can send SMS and email notifications. Integration with your gate or turnstile is planned during the design stage.

### What about GDPR and employee privacy?
Camera systems that can identify people fall under the GDPR and the EDPB Guidelines 3/2019. In Greece, Article 27 of Law 4624/2019 requires that workplace video is necessary to protect people and property, that employees are informed in writing and that footage is not used to evaluate performance. We help you configure the system and notices accordingly.

### What does a PPE detection system cost?
It depends on the number of entrances, cameras and outputs. After a free site survey you receive a detailed quote with specifications and a schedule.
