Virtual pedestrian crossing that lights up when it matters

A bright zebra crossing projected onto the floor at doorways and gates. When a forklift approaches, it gives way to a blinking forklift warning, so both sides get the same clear signal.

Light & floor projection

Factory exits and warehouse gates are where pedestrians step into forklift traffic, often without a clear view of what is coming. A virtual pedestrian crossing projects the zebra onto the floor with an LED projector, so the crossing stays visible even when the floor is dirty or the old paint has long gone.

Because the crossing is made of light, it can be dynamic. Connected to a forklift detection sensor, it switches off as a vehicle approaches and the forklift warning sign blinks in its place. A sign that changes gets noticed; a sign that never changes eventually stops being seen.

We combine the projector with whatever the spot calls for: barriers, signal lights, a smart mirror, or a STOP projection on the vehicle side.

How a virtual pedestrian crossing works

  1. Crossing projected by LED projector

The pedestrian crossing is projected permanently, 24/7.

  2. Warning LED projector activates

When a forklift approaches, the crossing switches off and a second projector shows the forklift warning pictogram. It keeps blinking until the forklift has moved away.

  3. Safe crossing

Once the forklift has moved away, the warning projector switches off and the crossing is projected again, so pedestrians can cross safely.

Why a crossing made of light works

  • One signal for drivers and pedestrians

Both see the same crossing at the same moment, so nobody has to guess who goes first.

  • Visible on worn floors

The zebra stays sharp on dusty or stained floors, where paint has worn away.

  • Changes when a forklift approaches

Switching from crossing to warning keeps attention sharp, so people do not learn to ignore the marking.

  • No repainting downtime

There is nothing to repaint, so no closed doors while markings cure.

Where a virtual crossing makes sense

  • Factory exits

Doorways where people walk straight from a corridor into a forklift route.

  • Warehouse gates and fast doors

Openings where vehicles and pedestrians meet with little warning.

  • Production to storage transitions

Crossings between production lines and storage areas used all shift long.

  • Events and visitor walkways

At the CCHBC Leadership Conference 2025 in Athens, a projected crossing marked the stage walkway.

Frequently asked questions

What is a virtual pedestrian crossing?

It is a zebra crossing projected onto the floor by an industrial LED projector instead of being painted. It is projected around the clock and, linked to forklift detection, switches to a blinking forklift warning when a truck approaches.

What triggers the warning?

A sensor detects the approaching forklift. The crossing switches off, the warning projector blinks until the truck has moved away, and then the crossing comes back on. We set up the detection with you after assessing the location during the site survey.

Does it replace barriers and painted lines?

Not necessarily. Barriers physically stop people walking into traffic; the projection adds a signal that is hard to miss. Many sites use both, and we recommend the combination that fits each crossing.

How do we get drivers and pedestrians to respect it?

A marking that changes when a forklift is coming carries real information, which is why it tends to be taken seriously. We recommend briefing drivers and pedestrians together when the system goes live, so everyone knows what the signal means.

How much does a virtual crossing cost?

It depends on the doorway, the mounting options and the type of detection. After the free site survey you receive a detailed quote, with a video simulation of the crossing in your own facility.
