AI forklift pedestrian detection camera

The AI camera detects the pedestrian and alerts the driver in real time. If needed, the forklift slows down or stops. Pedestrians don’t need to carry any equipment.

Detection & collision avoidance

A forklift pedestrian detection camera uses artificial intelligence to tell a person from a pallet, a rack or another truck. Because detection is visual, pedestrians do not need to wear a tag, which makes it a strong choice where visitors, contractors or temporary staff move around.

Zones are set during installation and can be adjusted at any time from a mobile or web app.

How AI pedestrian detection works

  1. Define zones

Warning and danger zones are drawn around the forklift in the app, in shapes that fit how the truck moves.

  2. Detect

The camera recognises a pedestrian entering a zone, in daylight or in the dark.

  3. Alert

The in-cab display turns orange or red and an acoustic alert sounds, so the driver knows where the person is.

  4. Act

The control unit can slow the forklift down or stop it completely, depending on the zone.

Why choose an AI forklift camera

  • Nothing for pedestrians to wear

Anyone in the camera’s field of view is detected, including visitors who were never issued a tag.

  • Fewer false alarms

AI separates people from objects, so the driver is alerted when a person is in the zone, not every time the truck passes a rack.

  • Zones you can adjust

Change zone size and deceleration from the app as routes or tasks change.

  • Reliable in the dark

AVA cameras have LED lights for more reliable recognition in low light.

  • Driver attention too

The optional AVA Driver Safety System alerts on signs of fatigue, smoking or phone use.

Where AI cameras protect people

  • Reversing and blind zones

Rear and side views with alerts when a person steps behind the truck.

  • Mixed pedestrian traffic

Areas with visitors, contractors or temporary staff who do not carry tags.

  • Narrow aisles and rack points

Local slow-down at rack ends and other critical points.

Frequently asked questions

How does the camera avoid false alarms?

AI detection is trained to recognise people rather than react to any object, which keeps false alarms down. Zones are configured on site to match how each truck works and can be adjusted from the app once drivers have used the system.

Is a forklift camera allowed under GDPR?

Cameras that can identify people fall under the GDPR, and the EDPB Guidelines 3/2019 on video devices apply. In Greece, Article 27 of Law 4624/2019 allows workplace video only where it is necessary to protect people and property, requires written notice to employees and prohibits using footage to evaluate performance. We help you set zones, recording options and notices accordingly; your data protection officer should confirm the final set-up.

Is driver fatigue detection allowed under the EU AI Act?

The AI Act has prohibited emotion recognition in the workplace since 2 February 2025. The European Commission’s guidelines treat fatigue as a physical state, not an emotion, so fatigue alerts fall outside that ban. A GDPR review and a data protection impact assessment are still needed.

Can it be fitted to our existing forklifts?

AVA is designed for retrofit, with easy magnetic mounting and indoor and outdoor use. We confirm compatibility for each truck type in your fleet during the site survey.

Will our drivers accept it?

Acceptance comes from alerts that are relevant. We involve drivers when zones are calibrated, and present the system for what it is: protection for the driver as well as the pedestrian, especially in blind spots.

Does it work outdoors and in the dark?

Yes. AVA is IP67-rated, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and has LED lighting for reliable detection in the dark.

What does an AI camera system cost?

It depends on the number of trucks, the cameras per truck and the peripherals you connect. The site survey is free and leads to a detailed quote.
